Leo Quinn, Balfour Beatty Group Chief Executive, comments on the UK Government’s 'New Deal' for Britain

30 June 2020

Today, following the UK Government’s announcement to accelerate infrastructure and capital investment projects, thus supporting the economy and employment, Leo Quinn, Balfour Beatty’s Group Chief Executive, shared his views on the impact this will have on the construction industry and those who work in it.

Leo Quinn, Balfour Beatty Group Chief Executive and Founder of The 5% Club, said: “The Prime Minister’s commitment to accelerate the UK’s long-term infrastructure pipeline is a critical factor for the country’s recovery. As well as stimulating regional and national economies, it will generate vast employment opportunities across the country and help provide our younger generations with employable skills. Without this, following the fall-out from COVID-19, we could see widespread structural unemployment issues.

“It is a commitment I welcome warmly, but our industry must prioritise sustainable, digital and innovative solutions in our delivery. In doing so, we will safeguard our future capabilities and provide certainty for the workforce of tomorrow”.

Balfour Beatty construct and maintain critical infrastructure at the backbone of both the UK economy and people’s daily lives. The business continues to focus on ensuring a significant contribution to both the UK economy and local communities, now and when normal conditions return.
