Empowering communities through bridge building

Since 2015, Balfour Beatty has been collaborating with Bridges to Prosperity, a non-profit organisation that aims to eliminate poverty caused to rural isolation by building pedestrian bridges in underserved communities. Teams from our UK and US businesses have played a key role in completing 14 life-changing bridge projects in Bolivia and Rwanda.

In 2024, following two weeks of construction and thousands of miles of travel, our UK team successfully completed the construction of a new pedestrian bridge across the Kazirankomo River in Rebero, Rwanda. The bridge now provides safe passage for 4,1000 Rwandan residents to access markets, education institutions and healthcare facilities – improving their lives for years to come.

We will continue our collaboration with Bridges to Prosperity by sending teams from the UK and US to Rwanda to build two more life-changing bridges in 2025.
