Balfour Beatty makes waves at Considerate Constructors Scheme awards

7 April 2017

UK

Balfour Beatty has scooped twenty Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) awards this year with five Gold, seven Silver and eight Bronze awards.

These annual, national awards recognise companies’ efforts to raise standards in the consideration for the communities in which they work and to improve the performance and overall perception of the industry.

Balfour Beatty’s awards included the Crossrail C512 Whitechapel station contract which will form part of the new Elizabeth line from December 2018, the Pen Y Cymoedd Wind Farm project in Wales, the National Automotive Innovation Centre project in Warwick, St Peter Street Student Accommodation project in Aberdeen and the Rossall Flood Defence project in Lancashire, part of the largest coastal improvement scheme in the country.

The company was also recognised for its work on the extension to Nottingham Girls High School. This project also secured runner-up status in the prestigious ‘Most Considerate Site’ category for its outstanding commitment towards community relations, including the introduction of a real time interactive programme enabling students and school children to experience a site tour from the comfort of their desks.

Bekir Andrews, Balfour Beatty’s Group Sustainability Manager, said: “The Considerate Constructors Scheme awards recognise the important work our project teams do to deliver social benefit to the communities we serve. To win twenty awards is a real testament to our commitment to improving the image of construction.

“We will continue this momentum throughout 2017 and hope to see these figures rise in time for the awards ceremony next year.”

Isabel Martinson, Executive Chairman, CCS, said: “On behalf of the Scheme, I would like to congratulate our award winners on their success.

“Every award-winning site is a beacon of best practice – making significant strides to continually improve the image and reputation of the UK construction industry.

“The Scheme is hugely proud of the efforts of these top-performing sites and we thank them for their hard work, dedication and commitment to achieve ever higher standards in considerate construction.”
