Balfour Beatty was commended at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Inspiring Change awards this week as it secured the 2019 ‘Inspiring Change in the Workplace’ award.
The award recognises Balfour Beatty’s Multicultural Affinity Network, set up in 2016, which aims to ensure the business understands cultural experiences and provides an open platform for employees to bring their own unique perspective to the development of the business’s working culture.
The Inspiring Change awards is an annual celebration of construction and infrastructure companies which have created a more inclusive and diverse culture, recognising those who have prioritised Diversity and Inclusion.
Balfour Beatty was acknowledged for its Reverse Mentoring programme which sees employees paired with senior leaders, enabling employees to share insights into the experiences of ethnic minorities and other underrepresented groups.
Balfour Beatty was also recognised for its Inclusive Leadership training, which equips senior leaders with the skills needed to embed an inclusive culture within their teams.
Balfour Beatty continues to work with CECA’s Fairness, Inclusion and Respect (FIR) programme to develop a case study sharing the company’s best practice with the wider industry. Specific engagement will focus on small to medium size enterprises (SMEs) with the aim of providing the necessary tools to develop fair and inclusive workplaces across the industry’s supply chain.

Teik Tan, Assistant Supply Chain Manager and co-chair of the Multi-Cultural Affinity network was also highly commended for the FIR, Inspiration Individual award for his work.
