Role Purpose 



  • Managing the ecological deliverables of the BTNO scheme to programme, budget and quality standard. This includes managing on-site surveys, inspections and watching briefs, guiding programme and on-site measures required from the works information, and ensuring legal requirements and company standards are met.

  • Interpreting contract and DCO and planning obligations, guidelines and design requirements into practical cost-effective solutions to ecological challenges facing construction teams.

  • Key discipline project interface for design teams, clients, and stakeholders.

  • Provide technical support for Biodiversity Net Gain initiatives.

  • Line manage and mentor Assistant Site Ecologist on the project.

  • Manage subcontract packages and ensure licence requirements are met for the full term of project and aftercare.

  • Actively help deliver a culture of continual improvement of on-site ecological practice that is solution-orientated to support construction teams.

What you'll be doing


  • Lead on delivery of project ecological requirements.

  • Develop and implement ecological management plans.

  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, clients and design teams, and internal teams.

  • Ensure site compliance with ecological legislation and coach construction teams in applying controls and mitigations in pragmatic, cost-effective ways.

  • Ensure the company environmental management system is maintained in line with changing standards and legislation and liaise with senior team lead on changes required.

  • Lead investigations and report on ecological incidents.

Who we're looking for


The following qualities/experience are essential:


  • Excellent knowledge of ecological management and mitigation

  • Excellent understanding of ecological legalisation for development

  • Good level of commercial awareness

  • Full driver’s licence and flexibility to travel

  • Good understanding of environmental management for construction sites

  • Good understanding of the utilities/construction/engineering operating environment

  • Literate in MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook

  • Excellent communication skills


The following qualities/experience are desirable:



  • Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecology or related subject

  • At least one protected species survey licence

  • Experience of working on large scale infrastructure construction projects

  • Full CIEEM Membership
