About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Balfour Beatty’s team that has been selected as a construction partner for the Rolls Royce expansion work in Raynesway, Derby, needed to meet the growth in demand from the MOD and as a result of the AUKUS agreement. As part of this programme of works, which will be executed in stages over the next eight years, Balfour Beatty will deliver infrastructure enabling works, build new manufacturing and office facilities, and redevelop existing industrial buildings on the site.


As a Section Engineer, you will take the lead in delivering a package of works providing management of a multi-disciplinary team comprising Site Engineers, Assistant Engineers & Foremen.

What you'll be doing


  • Carry out complex setting out

  • Coaches subordinates in the use of setting out techniques

  • Produces Activity Control Plans

  • Maintains a comprehensive filing system of quality records

  • Reviews Method Statements and Task Briefings

  • Prepares and raises Temporary Works Briefs

  • Produces a weekly programme and measures progress against KPIs

  • Communicates weekly programme and targets to the workforce

  • Carries out a labour and plant reconciliation

Who we're looking for


  • Able to carry out complex setting out

  • Understands and has experience of producing Activity Control Plans

  • Awareness of Specification and other Contract documents

  • Understands Permit System and actively raises permits to work

  • Able to identify potential hazards and is proactive in implementing actions and controls

  • Good understanding of key contract documentation

  • Understands specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and supplies
