About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quality Engineer to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our Old Oak Common development in London – join us and be part of the largest construction project in the UK.


HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.


Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Quality Engineer you will be responsible for supporting the co-ordination, submission, compliance and management of all assurance activities and the resolution of assurance related issues.


 


Role Responsibilities;



  • Act  as  the  main  point  of  contact  point  for  all  Quality  matters  within  the  Work Package

  • Build a good and collaborative relationship with all stakeholders involved in the 
    Work Package and drive a fair culture of openness and honesty ensuring non-
    conformities are identified, reported and timely action taken to close.

  • Ensure active communication is implemented and maintained at all time between the  key  stakeholders  within  the  Work  Package  (BBVS  APM,  Subcontractors Quality rep, ..)

  • Engage with subcontractors at early stage provide training and assistance with 
    BBVS Quality tools and processes.

  • Review  the  Subcontractors  Quality  Plan  and  ensure  it  aligns  with  the  contract requirements and the BBVS IMS.

  • Support the Delivery Teams in the review of Material Acceptance Records (MAR) 
    to ensure that the information provided is clear and that all supporting evidence 
    is attached properly to facilitate review and acceptance by others.

  • Perform  Surveillances  of  the  Subcontractor’s  Supply  Chain  to  review  their 
    assurance process.

  • Participate  in  the  Readiness  Review  process  and  attend/provide  input  for  the Package Progress Meetings

  • Seek  support  from  the  Quality  Assurance  Manager  as  and  when  required  and provide regular update on progress and on-going Quality topics

Who we're looking for

The following experience is essential:



  • Experience of Major Civil Engineering projects.

  • Knowledge and experience of working to UK and International Standards, and industry Codes of Practice.

  • Quality subject matter expertise and proven track record in Quality Management.

  • A formal qualification in Quality Management or Civil Engineering, e.g. Bachelor or Master’s Degree


  • Maintains a strong sense of personal ownership relevant to the role, seeks to add value to their function, and maintains a ‘make it happen’ approach



  • Ability to build strong relationships with the project team members, suppliers, client representatives, and other stakeholders



  • Substantial practical experience of quality assurance and control in a relevant
    business environment



  • Technical knowledge and experience relevant to the works area



  • Ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts (including design / manufacturers’ nformation), make appropriate judgements, and act accordingly without undue delay



  • Pays attention to detail and sees thing through to completion



  • Can communicate effectively orally and written and influence others including senior management



  • Can demonstrate initiative and resilience



  • Knowledge of the sector and experience within a project-based organization



  • Acts professionally both independently and collaboratively with others



  • Has an enquiring and questioning approach to audit work



  • Is a self-starter who manages their own time and seeks to add value to their function



  • Is able to work within a multi-discipline team



  • Able to command respect across the business and within the Function
