What you'll be doing
The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires a Design Interface Manager to take a role in the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Marine and Tunnelling Portion, Engineering and Technical Team, ensuring technical delivery of complex designs across these interfaces with an emphasis on ensuring construction feasibility.
The role requires ensuring interface management procedures are understood and followed by the project team, and effective arrangements are established and maintained to identify and resolve design interfaces, including notable complex temporary work and permanent work design interfaces associated with excavation of tunnels and construction of tunnel shaft connections. The project team includes people internal to the CWA, lead design consultant(s), internal and external temporary work designer(s), and subcontractors.
- Engage with the project team on all matters relating to design interfaces and ensure interfaces are clearly understood, that designs across these interfaces are compatible and that clear exchange and understanding of design and construction risks are documented.
- Ensure effective communication and management of design and physical interfaces between CWA procured external L3 designer(s) and CWA management teams; CWA procured external temporary work designer(s) and CWA management teams; CWA methods teams; and CWA operational delivery teams.
- Ensure effective communication and management of design and physical interfaces with SZC as CDM Principal Designer and its designers.
- Ensure effective arrangements are in place and maintained for design interface meetings to satisfy the delivery programme priorities.
- Report on completeness and resolution of interfaces on design interfaces for permanent works detailed designs; temporary works designs and Subcontractor designs against programme priorities.
- Produce and maintain design interface management plans and give get schedules.
- Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
Who we're looking for
Knowledge & Skills
- Experience in planning and construction of major projects with emphasis on civil, structural and tunnel works in a contractor led environment, with emphasis on technical coordination and management for construction;
- Construction or technical assurance role involving engagement with stakeholders on design, including interfacing designers, asset owners / operators and subcontractor designers;
- Effective communicator, both listening to others and explaining own considerations to seek agreement on what is best for project;
- Positive approach to teamwork and collaboration, demonstrate leadership and proactiveness with the rest of the project team, including the client and key stakeholders;
- Use of 3D and 4D modelling software for industrial applications;
- Design review process, model management and BIM clash detection;
- Implement the project Design Management Plan, BIM Execution Plan and other associated documents;
- Experience of working collaboratively in a contractor environment;
- Proficiency in IT and numeracy;
- Good communication and ability to form effective relationships with the project team, supply chain partners and clients under time pressure;
- Demonstrable track record of delivering a high quality product to tight deadlines;
- Already a member or proactively working towards technical membership or professional qualification; and
- Valid CSCS card
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree and professionally qualified or working towards professional qualification.
- Major Project Construction industry experience with experience of design production and/or coordination for civil, structural and tunnelling works in a contractor led environment.
