Location: Dartford (with travel to other locations as required)


Shift Pattern: 24/7 rotational shifts

What you'll be doing

In this dynamic and impactful role, you will be at the heart of incident response and network operations, ensuring the safety, efficiency, and smooth running of one of the UK’s most critical road networks. Your expertise will help keep roads safe, traffic flowing, and key infrastructure operating at its best.



  • Lead and direct primary and secondary response teams, deploying the right resources to efficiently resolve incidents in line with company policy.

  • Accurately receive and communicate critical information to ensure swift and effective responses to incidents.

  • Monitor CCTV, tunnel, and bridge safety systems, taking appropriate action when alarms are triggered.

  • Maintain accurate records of network occupancy using bespoke databases.

  • Ensure timely updates to key colleagues and stakeholders via escalation platforms during critical incidents.

  • Work to agreed business performance and quality standards, ensuring compliance with Connect Plus policies and procedures.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including National Highways, emergency services, Transport for London (TFL), and other contractors.

  • Act as a key point of liaison with Highways England Regional Operations Centres, NTIC, and NILO, ensuring real-time coordination.

  • Receive and distribute weather-related decisions in line with the Severe Weather Plan, keeping road users safe in all conditions.

Essential Skills & Experience:




  • Operational Control Room Experience – Ideally within emergency services or National Highways (desirable but not essential).

  • Time-Critical Decision Making – Ability to deploy resources quickly and effectively.

  • Performance-Driven Mindset – Comfortable working in a target-focused environment.

  • Strong Communication Skills – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.

  • Problem-Solving Abilities – Using data and information to assess options and outcomes.

  • Multi-System Proficiency – Ability to operate and analyse multiple databases simultaneously.

  • Calm Under Pressure – Ability to prioritise and manage multiple incidents in high-stress situations.


Desirable Experience:



  • Understanding of Incident Management & Escalation – Familiarity with processes and terminology.

  • Knowledge of Transport & Road Networks – Experience in highways, traffic management, or transport control.

  • Awareness of Commercial Implications – Understanding how operational decisions impact the business.

  • 24/7 Shift Work Experience – Comfortable working in a rotational shift environment.
