About the role

Balfour Beatty is looking for a Project Manager (Overhead Lines - OHL) to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team in the Midlands. This is an exciting opportunity to lead high-profile projects, ensuring safe, sustainable, and high-quality delivery—on time and within budget.


As a Project Manager, you will take full ownership of project success, from planning and design through to execution, commissioning, and handover. You’ll drive collaboration, foster a high-performance culture, and ensure seamless project delivery while maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.


Key Responsibilities


✅ Lead and oversee the delivery of Overhead Line (OHL) projects within the Power T&D sector.
✅ Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
✅ Manage project programmes, budgets, risks, and resources effectively.
Motivate and lead a multi-disciplinary team, driving performance and collaboration.
✅ Oversee client and stakeholder management, ensuring expectations are met and exceeded.
✅ Ensure full compliance with industry regulations, health & safety standards, and company policies.
✅ Promote continuous improvement and best practices in project management and delivery.

What you'll be doing


  • Hold periodic project reviews and update the Digital Briefcase

  • Ensure the team maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries
    etc.)

  • Prepare and present both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders

  • ptitude and ability to understand technical answers / explanations

  • Management of teams to ensure works are deliverable

  • Ability to interrogate designs and challenge inputs and deliverables

  • Ensure reports provide relevant information to enable decisions to be made
    which are informed, cost effective and in line with overall business strategy

  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in
    legislation

  • Accountable for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and
    supply chain

  • Carry out Safety & Environmental Tours/promote observation and safety
    initiatives

  • Lead Accident/Incident Investigations

  • Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement
    improvement actions

  • Review RAMS and accepting subcontractor RAMS

  • Develop H&S plan and ensure it is treated as a live document

  • Ensure sufficiency and competency of workforce

  • Management and empowerment to allow teams to set people to work

  • Upskilling and mentoring of others

  • Coordinate and manage all project activities and internal functions

  • Identify and control resource to deliver works

  • Develop, implement and update resource allocations plans and raise
    appropriate requests

  • Produce plans for the team to achieve goals/aspirations

  • Develop high performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent and assist with
    internal training through supporting, guiding, motivating and empowering the
    team. Using the resources available through training, mentoring and
    performance management.

  • Ensure all work is undertaken with a view towards handover and certification

  • Accountable for KPI’s in line with project objectives and monitor performance

  • Ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate
    action on findings

  • Lead working groups on focused improvement areas

  • Develop, implement, review and periodically update resource loaded
    schedules

  • Ensure team adopt productivity and project controls techniques

  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly
    meeting

  • Ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and
    customer expectations

  • Establish robust change control process

  • Ensure that expenditure is in line with the budget and that resources are
    utilised efficiently to ensure cost control

  • Able to identify elements for cost recovery from others

  • Incorporate and balance both operational and commercial constraints into
    decision making

  • Lead effective reporting routines including escalation as required


Who we're looking for


The following qualities/experience are essential:


  • Experience of working on a variety of project types

  • Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery

  • In depth understanding and practical experience of standard forms of contracts

  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications

  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the
    organisation

  • Communicate new concepts and ideas to technical and non-technical
    stakeholders

  • Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams. Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required

  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics

  • Record of a solution-based approach to problem solving

  • Ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team

  • Discuss ideas and plans competently and with confidence

  • Sponsor and promote project diversity and inclusion

  • Recognise and drive personal development with a learning mindset

  • Member of a professional management body i.e. APM

  • Proficient on O365

  • Holds a current driving licence


The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:


  • Formal qualification in project management or equivalent experience

  • CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent
