About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager to join our Power Transmission & Distribution Team in Scotland.


This role will manage a team of Health & Safety professionals on the Skye 132kV Reinforcement (Overhead Line & Underground Cabling). The project will reinforce the high voltage electricity network, from Ardmore on the Isle of Skye, to Fort Augustus.


The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager will provide leadership, management, guidance, support, advice and effective governance to the project on all Health Safety & Wellbeing related subjects -  encouraging the creation of an open and positive safety culture.

What you'll be doing

Responsibilities: 




  • Communicate and engage with the project/business area to implement the HS&W strategy

  • Provide professional HS&W services to the across the project/business area

  • Ensure compliance with all HS&W Regulations, Company Policies and the BMS

  • Ensure lessons learned are effectively communicated across their project/business area

  • Lead local HS&W work winning activities

  • Deliver on-going approved HS&W Awareness Training to meet project and business needs

  • Promoting HS&W engagement with key stakeholders

  • Support and maintain a constant focus on the behavioural safety programme

  • Support Project during incident/accident investigations

  • Support the HS&W upskilling and development of the business operational teams

  • Implement HS&W initiatives and innovations across the project/business area.

  • Conducting site HS&W Inspections, visits & joint tours

  • Responsible for local audit programme across their project/business area

  • Promote and encourage the systematic evaluation and control of risk

  • Roll out local and national HS&W projects (e.g. MSP, Supervisor Development)

  • Provide guidance in the preparation of safe systems of work

  • Assist in the identification of HS&W training needs for operational staff

  • Manage the project HS&W resources to meet the requirements of their project/business area

  • Coach and mentor their direct reports for succession planning and personal development

  • Actively provide safety leadership to the supply chain & subcontractors

  • Undertake and encourage observation reporting

  • Ensure management of incidents and actions

  • Ensure management of Inspections and observations on the BB HS&W portal


Who we're looking for

Knowledge & Experience:



  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (IOSH/IEMA) or working towards

  • Educated to NEBOSH Diploma or National Compliance and Risk Qualifications (NCRQ)Diploma

  • Experienced Principal incident investigator

  • Experience of reviewing and producing reports to executive level

  • Relevant experience matched with their project/business area

  • Excellent presentation skills
