What you'll be doing
Key responsibilities:
- Develop civil designs for water infrastructure projects.
- Apply British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry guidelines in the design of concrete, steel, and masonry structures.
- Design, schedule, and specify pipes, including ductile iron, steel, and plastic.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement risk management in designs.
- Support the creation of Engineering Project Plans.
- Collaborate with clients, operational teams, and third parties to maintain strong working relationships.
- Conduct and document site surveys, assessing opportunities, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Prepare topographic survey briefs and evaluate outputs from techniques such as laser scanning and drone surveys.
- Ensure designs meet technical standards, quality plans, and procurement requirements.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to drive efficient project delivery.
- Review and validate design outputs before release for construction.
- Research and implement innovative solutions to improve efficiency and sustainability.
Who we're looking for
What we are looking for:
- BEng or MEng/MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status (MICE or MIStructE).
- Strong knowledge of structural calculations for concrete structures, including slabs, beams, and liquid-retaining structures (Eurocodes and industry standards).
- Ability to interpret drawings and models, and create clear design sketches for 3D modeling.
- Hands-on experience in civil engineering design within the water industry.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as TEDDS by Tekla, Staad Pro, and Autodesk Robot.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- Experienced and technically competent in most, if not all of the below:
- Reinforced concrete design (BS EN 1992), including liquid-retaining structures.
- Concrete specification (BS 8500-1) with knowledge of low-carbon concretes.
- Service reservoir design and detailing.
- Steel frame structures (portal frame) and fundamental design principles.
- Masonry design and detailing.
- Ground engineering, site investigations, and earthworks specifications.
- Buried pipework design, including material selection and thrust restraint considerations.
- Design of drainage systems, including surface water collection and disposal.
- Site road design for concrete and tarmac surfaces.
- Surveying experience, including structural and general building assessments.
