Are you ready to take on a key leadership role in shaping the success of cutting-edge rail projects? We are seeking an experienced Planning Manager to join our PMO team, where you will lead overall planning strategies, project reviews, and delay analysis. This role will see you providing expert training, guidance, and planning support across multiple existing rail projects, ensuring their success while also contributing to work-winning initiatives and new opportunities.

What you'll be doing


  • Expert in identifying planning scope, major constraints, and contract requirements alongside identifying major quantities and factors affecting the programme.

  • Lead the collaborative development and agreement on logical sequencing and methodologies during the tender stage, ensuring alignment with project objectives.

  • Oversee the planning team to adopt efficient design, procurement, and construction strategies for successful project delivery.

  • Guide the planning processes by developing key deliverables such as programs, planning philosophy, presentations, and reports.

  • Formulate Tender Programmes, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and driving effective planning strategies to ensure project success.

  • Provide strategic planning guidance during the tender and contract stages in line with the gated business lifecycle.  

  • Ensure adherence to planning procedures and contribute actively to the project's overall success under the leadership of the Planning/Project Lead.

  • Interrogate project critical path and provide analysis to project teams.

  • Assessing project baselines against the current project change control process.

  • Oversee contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, monitoring performance and resolving contract-related issues.

Who we're looking for


  • Proficiency in project management tools/software like Excel, MS Project, Primavera P6, or ASTA.

  • Previous experience as a Planning Manager in the construction industry.

  • In-depth understanding of construction project management principles and methodologies.

  • Expertise in project scheduling, planning, and risk management (TRA, QSRA).

  • Familiarity with financial aspects of project planning, including budgeting, cost estimation and delay analysis. 

  • Knowledge of NEC3 form of contract and evaluation of compensation events.

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Experience of training people in planning.
