Volunteering and Charitable Giving

By volunteering our time and giving to charity, we go beyond our day-to-day delivery of amazing engineering and construction feats to make a difference in local communities.

To support this, we’ve selected STEM Learning as our main corporate charity partner – helping to grow the skills our business and industry depend on, while reinforcing our commitment as proud members of The 5% Club, where we have long supported the next generation to fulfil their potential.

Through our partnership, we will support STEM Learning to deliver:

  • Continuing Professional Development for teachers – helping to upskill teachers from schools in areas of high deprivation to support the delivery of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects.
  • Student mentoring placements – matching students with mentors, including our own STEM Ambassadors and those from other organisations, who will support them on their journey from education into the world of work.
  • Student placements – working with an expert in a STEM-related area, 16 and 17-year-old students from disadvantaged backgrounds will have the opportunity to work on a research question or area of development, gaining hands-on experience of STEM in the workplace.

Empowering our people to give something back, they each have two paid volunteering days a year. These days can be used to support the STEM Learning activities above, good causes selected by our employees that are aligned to our Building New Futures Sustainability Strategy or local community projects that our people will be able to connect with directly with via an online portal, which will launch in phases during 2025 and 2026.

Whether it’s engaging education and upskilling initiatives to help achieve our target to deliver 60,000 hours of engagement with education by 20301 or sharing their skills to help social enterprises grow or improving community spaces, we support our employees to use volunteering opportunities to not only benefit good causes, but also strengthen connections and relationships among colleagues and partners.
