Balvac repaired this 13th century castle in North Wales, helping to preserve the historic ruin for future generations.
Working with conservation and archaeological specialists, we employed various repair and strengthening techniques to combat the centuries of inclement weather and strong coastal winds that contributed to the weakening the castle’s sandstone walls.
Cracked lintel stones above window openings were pinned with GRP rods and structurally bonded using resin injection to prevent further damage and to provide support. Weak and weathered stone surfaces were treated by introducing a low viscosity sealant under vacuum assistance. Loose masonry was tied in place to prevent falling debris before filling in the joints with mortar and resin. All these techniques were completed sympathetically and discretely ensuring the longevity of this historic castle for many decades to come.
