RAF Welford, Berkshire

We've maintained and upgraded infrastructure at RAF Welford to enhance reliability, safety and efficiency, ensuring future operational readiness for the US Air Force.

The facility, operated by the United States Visiting Forces (USVF), has a long history dating back to World War II when it served as a transport airfield. Today, it stands as one of the largest ammunition depots in Western Europe, supporting various NATO operations.

Following the successful delivery of previous phases of works at RAF Welford, we were awarded the contract to deliver a further phase that supported the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) in ensuring all existing buildings, assets and facilities on the site operated efficiently. Our scope of work included:

  • Replacing and upgrading approximately 6.5 km of buried water ring main
  • Replacing and upgrading 7.7 km of buried 11kV power supply lines
  • Automating all Emergency Water Storage (EWS) systems to eliminate the need for manual filling

Our collaborative approach drove project success

Our long-standing relationship with the DIO and proven track record of successful project delivery ensured we were able to foster a collaborative working relationship and approach to the project delivery from the outset. Our early contractor involvement was key in defining and agreeing a project scope that ensured all works were completed safely and efficiently.

Building positive legacy

We are committed to delivering long-lasting social impact through our projects. Collaborating with US Air Force in Europe (USAFE) and the DIO, we focused on enhancing social value and fostering good relationships across the local community. Along with USAFE, our teams ensured local residents were aware of the employment opportunities available for young people and worked to ensure that the project delivered long lasting benefits to the local community.
