Creating sustainable learning environments in the US

We partnered with Twin Rivers Unified School District for our 13th Green Apple Day event at Del Paso Heights Elementary School in Sacramento, California to improve a learning environment for K-12 students.

Over 40 volunteers including Balfour Beatty colleagues, students, teachers, parents and community members came together to create a learning garden, providing a space for students for healthy, hands-on learning. A professional muralist also added a vibrant mural of the school mascot, a dragon, to enhance the space. Volunteers then planted a vegetable garden, assembled tables, painted and added a free library.

Green Apple Day of Service is an international movement to celebrate schools’ role in preparing the next generation of global leaders in sustainability, providing an opportunity to transform school facilities into healthy, safe, cost-efficient and productive learning places.

“Our Green Apple Day outdoor classrooms are a great way to give back to the communities we cherish, but they also showcase our expertise with the green spaces that can make student experiences so special.”
