Foundry Courtyard Student Accommodation, Glasgow

Delivering high-quality student accommodation in Glasgow

Foundry Courtyard is a 536-bedroom student accommodation development providing modern, high-quality living for students attending the University of Strathclyde, City of Glasgow College and Glasgow Caledonian University.

The development offers a diverse range of accommodation types, including two- to six-bedroom cluster flats and 149 self-contained studio apartments. A wide range of shared amenities enhances the student experience, including a gymnasium, cinema room, study pods, social spaces with a games area and a ground-floor retail unit. A large, secure central courtyard also provides valuable outdoor recreational space for residents.

A full infrastructure lifecycle solution

Drawing on our extensive development and investment expertise, Foundry Courtyard marked Balfour Beatty’s first ‘direct let’ student accommodation scheme.

As the developer, we secured funding, completed the site acquisition, planning and design, and delivered the construction of the scheme. Following completion, we operated the accommodation, with all funding and finance for the project provided directly by Balfour Beatty, demonstrating our ability to deliver and manage assets across the full infrastructure lifecycle.

Wide-ranging construction capability

The project showcased the breadth of Balfour Beatty’s in-house expertise, with works delivered by Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering, alongside mechanical and electrical services provided by Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick.

Innovative technologies were adopted to enhance workforce safety throughout delivery, including:

  • SiteZone Proximity Warning System – using radio-frequency technology to alert plant operators to pedestrians in close proximity, reducing the risk of vehicle–pedestrian incidents.

  • Crane Hook Camera System – a wireless camera installed on the crane hook to improve visibility and safety for crane operators during lifting operations.

To maintain progress during the wettest winter on record, our teams implemented temporary weather protection measures, including tents, gazebos and metal sheeting, allowing works to continue safely and efficiently on site.

Project update

In December 2025, Balfour Beatty announced the sale of its 100% stake in Foundry Courtyard to an undisclosed buyer.
