An award-winning alliance delivering Anglian Water’s capital investment programme, serving almost seven million people in the East of England and Hartlepool.
In 2005, Balfour Beatty became a founding member of Anglian Water’s @one Alliance. The alliance has been building industry-leading success since its conception, bringing together the very best from its eight partners. It is seen as one of the world’s leading alliances and a top performer in the water sector.
The partners consist of Anglian Water Asset delivery, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MacDonald Bentley, MWH Treatment, Skanska and Sweco. Together, we deliver around 40% of Anglian Water’s capital delivery programme.

What we do
Our works include the restoration or assembly of new water treatment works and water recycling centres, as well as replacing and providing essential infrastructure pipework to support both water and wastewater distribution.
We successfully delivered a £1.2 billion programme in AMP7 whilst continuing to build greater integration and collaboration with Anglian Water, our partners, and supply chain; enabling us to deliver further efficiencies, lower carbon solutions, improved customer service, and most importantly, a healthier and safer working environment.

By utilising innovative technologies such as pipebusting, sliplining, spray lining and directional drilling – often making use of the existing ‘the hole in the ground’ – we're able to drive efficiencies and reduce carbon.
Working closely with the customer, we tailor our approach to each project, ensuring a seamless experience whilst maintaining reliable water and sewage services for customers across the Anglian Water region.
In AMP8, the alliance will design and deliver projects worth approximately £3 billion.
Supporting National Highways infrastructure
As part of the @one Alliance, Balfour Beatty successfully delivered a complex programme of pipeline diversions to enable National Highways’ A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvement scheme.
The project involved the diversion of nine Anglian Water assets – one foul and eight clean water pipelines – crossing the proposed road corridor near Potton, Bedfordshire. Working within a tightly controlled interface with Skanska Highways and other stakeholders, we completed the installation of six twinned sleeved sections to protect and accommodate the diverted pipelines beneath the new highway alignment.

The scope also included the reconnection of several private services impacted by the scheme and ensuring continuity of supply throughout the work. All diversions were completed ahead of programme, following successful completion of associated earthworks and under challenging winter conditions.
