Balfour Beatty Living Places has featured on BBC News, after providing behind-the-scenes access to a careers fair held at HMP Lewes, organised by the company as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting ex-offenders into meaningful employment.

The event, organised through Balfour Beatty Living Places’s local contract in East Sussex, brought together businesses from across its supply chain and industry partners to speak directly with prisoners about career opportunities and life after release. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the wide variety of practical career paths available within the construction and infrastructure sectors, including highways maintenance.

Commenting on the success of the event, Ceri Turner, Social Impact Manager at Balfour Beatty Living Places said: “We recognise people deserve a second chance and there is commercial value in having a diverse team in the company.”

The careers fair was described as “life-changing” by former inmate Frazer Trought, who is now employed by a supply chain partner after attending a similar Balfour Beatty Living Places-led event. “They empowered me to prove my worth by giving me responsibility and allowing me to work hard and prove myself as a reliable employee,” he told the BBC.
