Balfour Beatty’s Project Director, David Taylor has featured in New Civil Engineer discussing how value engineering is helping drive efficiencies on the A9 Dualling: Tomatin to Moy project in Scotland.
In the article, David explores how collaborative value engineering exercises undertaken during both the tender stage and following contract award have delivered significant cost, carbon and programme benefits across the project.
Commenting on the impact of value engineer, David shared: “The concept design allowed for some change in the vertical alignment on the approach to some of the bridges. We reduced the vertical alignment, saving embankment fill. We also reduced the verge width on some of the structures, which led to a smaller overall structure width and hence lower volume of concrete required.”
The article also highlights the lessons learned and implemented from Balfour Beatty’s delivery of the Luncarty to Pass of Birnam section of the A9 project which opened in August 2021.
