Our Building New Futures Sustainability Strategy
At Balfour Beatty, we value everyone and are committed to creating a diverse workforce by fostering an inclusive culture, which nurtures people of all genders and backgrounds.
Ultimately, we want to be an employer of choice for high quality, talented people no matter their gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, social background, or religion; not only because this is the right thing to do, but because harnessing the creativity and innovation of a diverse range of people will make us a better business.
At Board level, we have achieved all the diversity targets for gender and ethnic minority representation set by the FTSE Women Leaders Review and the Parker Review. The Nominations Committee undertakes regular succession planning and provides strong oversight of diversity and inclusion initiatives across the Group, ensuring that every employee has the opportunity to thrive at Balfour Beatty. The Board is also committed to supporting and developing a diverse pipeline of candidates for senior manager and subsidiary director roles within the Group
Across our geographies, we’re taking action by running our own diversity and inclusion focussed events such as our annual ‘Together Allies Summit’ in the US, the ‘Building Belonging through Allyship’ event in Hong Kong and participating in external events such as National Inclusion Week in the UK. Working closely with our Affinity Networks, we continue to deepen our understanding in all areas of diversity and inclusion.
Our UK Value Everyone Action Plan sets out in detail the steps we are taking to boost the diversity of our business, including the UK employee diversity, equity and inclusion targets we’ve set through our Building New Futures Sustainability Strategy to help accelerate the pace of change:
- Increasing the number of female colleagues by 50% by 2030 against a 2021 baseline.
- Increasing Minority Ethnic and Black representation by 60% by 2030, against a 2021 baseline.
