What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the OHL Lead Designer as appointed by the Design Delivery Manager. Responsible for delivery of the tender deliverables and project’s OHL scope of works and coordination of the relevant resources.
- Act as the Design Engineer as appointed by the Design Delivery Manager and the project’s Lead Designer.
- Produces the project’s OHL deliverables in coordination with the relevant resources.
- Identify and ensure design compliance with all relevant standards, legislation, Customer requirements and contract specifications throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review tender or contract documentation and establish the OHL scope of works.
- Apply best practices and lessons learned on all tenders and designs.
- Ensure all required designs, models and drawings have an adequate level of review, checking and approval, including suppliers and subcontractors, according to Quality Assurance processes and in line with Right First Time.
- Collaborate with designers from other disciplines under coordination of each project’s Engineering Manager.
- Practice Safety and Sustainability by Design on all projects, ensuring compliance with the latest CDM Regulations.
- Prepare the priced Schedule of Deliverables for the OHL scope of tenders, together with the associated
- Risk Register and list of Assumptions. Collaborate with the Planner and Engineering Manager in the production of the tender programme.
- Support and work on the resolution of design challenges.
- Deliver the allocated scope of works to programme, budget and quality.
- Interface with other stakeholders as required for project delivery.
- Ensure Document Management procedures are followed at all times.
- Supports improvements works within the team and projects.
- Trains, mentors and coaches more junior colleagues and supervises their work.

Who we're looking for
Skills Required:
- Degree level education or the equivalent with formal training in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Understanding of Overhead Power Line design, with extensive experience as a Design Engineer in this discipline.
- Understanding of UK and European design codes and standards for the Electricity Supply Industry, e.g., SSE, National Grid and ENA Technical Specifications, BS EN 50341/ IEC 60826 and IEC Standards in general.
- Demonstrates good knowledge of PLS-CADD and, where relevant, associated support packages.
- Familiarity with CAD Packages used in Line Design.
- Proficient user of Microsoft office packages such ad Word and Excel.
- Working towards chartered engineer status is desirable.
