What you'll be doing
- Installing HV equipment including busbars, transformers, grounding systems, connectors, and mechanical components.
- Carrying out hot tinning, mechanical bending/forming, and assembly/erection of aluminium and steel structures.
- Supporting cable installation works and ensuring all components are aligned, secure, and ready for energisation.
- Completing routine maintenance on mechanical and plant equipment.
- Working closely with project managers, site managers, and supervisors to ensure works progress safely and efficiently.
- Coordinating with supporting functions to ensure materials and equipment arrive on site as planned.
- Ensuring all accidents, near misses, and incidents are reported promptly and accurately.
- Completing all documentation and reporting requirements within project timeframes.
- Helping maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring safe working practices are always followed.
Who we're looking for
Essential experience and qualities:
- Competent in HV installation works and site installation procedures.
- Experience working in high‑voltage substation environments.
- CPCS (or similar) training.
- Ability to work at heights.
- Strong awareness and promotion of safety culture.
- Good communication skills, able to engage across various levels of the project team.
- Ability to ensure personnel are trained and competent for required tasks.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable experience:
- SSE, SPEN or National Grid authorisations.
- MEWP, Telehandler or ROTO licences.
- Experience in transformer and HV switchgear installation and alignment.
