What you'll be doing
In this role you will support the planning and management of day-to-day site activities across assigned workfronts, ensuring works are delivered safely and in line with project specifications, drawings, and engineering standards. You will coordinate labour, plant, and materials required for the works while ensuring compliance with Inspection and Test Plans, method statements, permits, and other site documentation.
You will support health and safety initiatives across site by delivering daily briefings and toolbox talks, ensuring teams understand any changes to methods or permits and maintaining accurate attendance and action records. The role will also involve contributing to incident investigations and ensuring safe systems of work are implemented and followed.
A key part of the role will involve managing and maintaining quality documentation. You will assist in drafting and implementing Inspection and Test Plans for ground engineering works, arranging inspections and testing activities, raising and managing non-conformance reports, and maintaining marked-up drawings including red-line and as-built records for project handover.
You will support procurement activities by translating operational requirements into specifications, raising orders, managing deliveries, and coordinating plant and material movements on site. This includes assisting with subcontract administration and ensuring resources are available when required to support the construction programme.
Monitoring productivity will also form part of your responsibilities. You will track rig performance and production rates against targets, identify opportunities for improvement, and highlight constraints or delays so that corrective actions can be implemented quickly.
Working closely with the wider project team, you will help maintain short and medium-term look-ahead programmes, supporting the sequencing of works and monitoring progress against key milestones. You will also contribute to delay analysis and support programme updates where required.
The role will involve supporting commercial and contractual processes under the alliance NEC4 contract model. This includes assisting with early warning notices, non-compensation events, and providing inputs for change events and quotations while supporting the project’s cost control processes.
You will also take on leadership responsibilities on site, supervising small teams or apprentices, supporting collaboration across project teams, and helping maintain a proactive and solution-focused working environment.
Who we're looking for
We are looking for someone with experience in site or contracts engineering within the construction or ground engineering sector. You should be confident working with engineering drawings and specifications and capable of coordinating site activities while maintaining accurate technical and quality records.
Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to engage effectively with site teams, project management, and support functions across safety, quality, procurement, and commercial disciplines. You should also be comfortable managing competing priorities and supporting the delivery of multiple workfronts within a dynamic project environment.
Experience working on complex civil engineering or ground engineering projects would be beneficial, particularly where methods such as piling, diaphragm walling, soil mixing, or grouting are used. An understanding of NEC contract processes and programme management principles would also be advantageous.
You will ideally hold a degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline, or have equivalent practical experience within the construction industry. A valid CSCS card is required, and additional certifications such as SSSTS or SMSTS would be beneficial.
Due to the nature of major infrastructure projects, occasional weekend or night work may be required, with shift rotations implemented in line with project requirements.
