What you'll be doing
You will review technical reports, drawings, and specifications to produce accurate costings for materials, labour, and equipment. Using your expertise, you will translate measurements from drawings and specifications into Bills of Quantities and Schedules of Rates, while interrogating design options and identifying value solutions.
You will record assumptions, evaluate risks and opportunities from a pricing and budgetary perspective, and collaborate with colleagues across the Change Team, wider CPS organisation, other Balfour Beatty business units, and the supply chain to understand methodologies and optimise project outcomes.
Maintaining and updating the estimating library using Candy software, you will mentor and support more junior team members, ensuring high standards of accuracy, consistency, and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Who we're looking for
We are seeking a Senior Estimator with a proven background in infrastructure contracting, ideally within the highways term-maintenance sector. You will have experience estimating heavy civil engineering projects, with strong knowledge of pricing, quantification methods, and cost planning.
You must be proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, and hold a valid CSCS card. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, enabling you to build effective relationships across internal teams, supply chain partners, and stakeholders.
You will bring a structured, analytical approach to estimating, with the ability to evaluate risk, identify opportunities, and provide accurate cost information to support strategic and operational decisions. Previous experience using Candy Estimating Software is required to ensure consistency and efficiency in cost management.
