Community investment

We work at the heart of local communities around the world. We’re a global provider of buildings infrastructure and services, as well as a major employer, and have a responsibility to ensure that our work improves the quality of people’s lives.

We support local communities through our role as a major employer, by taking part in and supporting organisations and activities that aim to improve social cohesion and inclusion and through contributing to charitable causes.

We are building a volunteering culture across the Group, and work with our business and charitable partners to identify opportunities.

Building Better Futures

Building Better Futures

Building Better Futures, Balfour Beatty’s charitable trust, was set up in 2009. Since then, we’ve donated over £1.6 million to help more than 15,000 disadvantaged young people across the UK.

It’s all made possible by the tireless fundraising efforts of our employees. For every £1 they raise, Balfour Beatty contributes another.

Building Better Futures is focused on three areas: young people’s employability and employment; helping the most disadvantaged people in society; and health, sport and wellbeing.

Some of the projects we’ve supported through Building Better Futures include:

  • Funding over 450 Prince’s Trust Development Awards, helping young people to overcome barriers preventing them from entering work or training
  • Funding over 1,200 Prince’s Trust Community Cash Awards, enabling disadvantaged young people to turn their ideas to improve their communities into reality
  • Funding accessible play equipment for 14 disability projects, over 2,200 days out for young carers and 494 items to help young people leaving care furnish their homes, working in partnership with Action for Children
  • Supporting the adoption of hard-to-place children and creative therapy for those with challenging learning difficulties through the first children’s charity, Coram
  • Supporting Chris Kids and Project Home, two charities dedicated to helping disadvantaged young people in the USA.
