Zero Harm

At Balfour Beatty, the safety and well-being of every individual is our utmost priority. Nothing matters more to us than ensuring that everyone returns home safely, every single day.

We are fully committed to protecting our workforce and all those affected by our work, and we remain steadfast in our pursuit of Zero Harm. Our dedication to health and safety is deeply ingrained in our company culture.

Over recent years, we have continued to strengthen this culture through proactive reporting, enhanced observation tools and the consistent application of digital processes that improve risk visibility on site. This includes the adoption of digital permits for high-risk activities, allowing projects to verify controls in real time and improve process discipline across complex operations.

Across major programmes, we are embedding strong fatal risk controls, supported by innovations such as advanced plant safety systems, improved equipment monitoring and clearer exclusion zone management – all helping reduce exposure to risks during high-intensity work.

Operational teams continue to drive improvement through local initiatives and contributions, with many projects already benefiting from structured well-being frameworks and practical tools that support psychological and physical health on site.
