Balfour Beatty recently won the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Award for Inspiring Change in the Workplace 2016.
Highways England sponsored the Inspiring Change Awards and presented Balfour Beatty with the award, in recognition of the work done by Balfour Beatty’s Lesbian, Gay, Bi Sexual and Transgender (LGBT) Affinity Network which offers confidential support to LGBT employees and their ’allies’.
The network, which has doubled its membership in less than two years, has over 80 members spanning the UK and USA ranging from senior sponsorship to grassroots construction workers.
The Inspiring Change Awards ceremony, which was held at the House of Commons January 27 and had guests such as Mims Davies MP and Caroline Dineage MP, Minister for Women and Equalities in attendance, aims to recognise those who promote diversion and inclusion in the wider community and in the workplace.
David Poole, Executive Director for Commercial and Procurement at Highways England, said: “I would like to congratulate the two worthy winners of the Inspiring Change in the Workplace category who have demonstrated that great initiatives in relation to diversity and inclusion really do make a difference in the workplace.”
Christina Riley, Balfour Beatty Senior Planner and Co-Chair of the LGBT Network, said: “The Balfour Beatty LGBT network is inclusive to all Balfour Beatty employees and has recently launched Diversity Toolbox Talks which are presented to grass root construction workers as well as customers and members of our supply chain to promote the importance of diversity and acceptance within the construction industry.
“We are delighted to have won this award and will continue our endeavours to ensure Balfour Beatty remains a diverse and inclusive organisation.”
