Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, announces that the Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado has recommended the North Metro Rail Line design-build project be awarded to the joint venture team of GBBH, led by managing partner Balfour Beatty Rail, Inc. Other members of the team include Graham Contracting Ltd and Hamon Contractors. Parsons Brinckerhoff is also a member of the team, serving as a sub-consultant to lead designer, Stantec Consulting Services Inc. Balfour Beatty Group holds a 50% share of the joint venture.
Our professional services, construction and rail teams will collaborate to provide design and construction services across the 13.5 mile transit project, which is valued at £213 (US$343) million. When complete, the project will extend the commuter rail line from Denver Union Station to the 124th Avenue Station, with options for additional extensions in the future.
“Rail projects are a key area of strategic focus for us and I am very pleased that we are announcing another key contract with the RTD of Denver. It follows on from our existing work on the Eagle P3 project and the successful FasTracks programme, our involvement in the West Rail Line and On-call Services contracts as well,” commented Andrew McNaughton, CEO for Balfour Beatty.
“Contracts such as this bring all of our skills into the mix to benefit our clients. Our teams in Balfour Beatty and Parsons Brinckerhoff will be collaborating to better meet the transportation needs of the larger metro-Denver community.“
The next step in the process is RTD’s board of director approval for the recommendation, anticipated on 26 November 2013. Design and construction of the rail line is then scheduled to begin in early 2014 with a four-year project duration.
