Balfour Beatty has featured on ITV Borders and BBC Cumbria highlighting Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick’s Project Coordinator, Ella Dixon’s, inspiring Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award journey.
Ella completed her Gold DofE Award in memory of her late boyfriend, Lloyd Sutton, who tragically died from bacterial meningitis in 2023 aged 18. Lloyd had previously achieved his Bronze and Silver DofE Awards and aspired to complete Gold. Determined to honour his memory, Ella jumped at the chance to complete it herself in tribute to him.
Speaking about her DofE journey, Ella said it had given her "a wide range of invaluable experiences," beginning at Brathay in the Lakes District with team-building activities, and ending with a challenging qualifying expedition in the Yorkshire Dales.
The news segments also highlighted the recognition she received at the Gold Award ceremony, including praise from The Duke of Edinburgh, who said: “You’ve discovered something inside you! That’s fantastic."
