Balfour Beatty, the global infrastructure group, announced today that Parsons Brinckerhoff, in joint venture with Kvaerner, has received a contract from Calpine Garrison LLC, to design and build the Garrison Energy Center, a 309MW combined cycle gas-fired power plant in Delaware, USA.
The joint venture will perform the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the facility. Parsons Brinckerhoff will be responsible for the design and procurement of the balance of plant equipment and the commissioning. Kvaerner will lead the joint venture as well as perform the construction of the facility.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Ian Tyler, Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, said “The award of this contract to design and build the Garrison Energy Center aligns with our strategy to focus on the power sector. As the industry continues to shift to cleaner burning natural gas, we anticipate a significant number of gas-fired power plant opportunities, especially in North America over the next decade, and we are well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities.”
The plant will employ highly efficient combined-cycle technology with advanced environmental controls. The project is expected to begin construction in early 2013 with completion expected during the summer of 2015.
