Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, has been awarded a £170 million contract to upgrade baggage screening and handling systems for Heathrow Airport Limited.
The project, which has been awarded through the Heathrow Airport Limited Delivery Integrator Framework to which Balfour Beatty was appointed in 2014, will involve upgrading and installing baggage screening and handling systems at Heathrow’s eastern baggage facility.
The Company will utilise its technological expertise across the project including the latest Building Information Modelling techniques to define the most efficient approach to design, manage logistics and to interface with live airport operations.

- This new contract forms a major part of Heathrow Airport Limited’s three-year Delivery Integrator Framework which was awarded to Balfour Beatty in 2014 to deliver infrastructure upgrade and asset management works at Heathrow Airport. The framework is intended to enable Heathrow to realise a 10% saving on its capital investment programme. Projects awarded through the framework to date have included managing the closure of Terminal 1 and multiple asset replacement projects. Balfour Beatty has also delivered the £590 million Heathrow Airport Terminal 2B construction project, the largest ‘airside’ project ever carried out at Heathrow measuring half a kilometre in length, and was also involved in the construction of the award winning Terminal 5 facility.
