Balfour Beatty has successfully completed the first stage of strengthening works on behalf of Network Rail on one of London’s major overbridges thanks to pioneering ‘mega tent’.
Situated in one of London’s busiest commuter hubs, Paddington Station, and adjacent to St Mary’s Hospital - the innovative ‘mega tent’ created a warehouse environment with an integrated lifting solution allowing works to progress safely and efficiently.
With over 100 tonnes of steel added to the bridge first built in 1912, Balfour Beatty experts have renovated and reinforced the bridge’s main cross girders and longitudinal beams to ensure its structural integrity for generations to come.
Following the completion of new steelwork to the bridge, work will now start on reinstating the new concrete deck and road surface.
