This is an opportunity to gain exposure to a high‑profile programme, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to deliver engineering solutions that are robust, compliant, and aligned with project milestones.

This position will require regular travel to Isle of Skye site when required.

The role supports smart and flexible working arrangements and is open to full‑time, part‑time, or job‑share candidates.

  • Coordinate internal and external design teams, ensuring alignment on project scope, design standards, and delivery expectations.

  • Support the integration of D&E services into the overall Access Skye delivery programme, including ensuring early identification of risks, design clashes, scope gaps, or resourcing issues.

Progress & Reporting

  • Monitor progress of assigned design packages and produce timely updates, forecasting and reporting on workload, cost-to-complete, and potential emerging issues.

  • Prepare and issue project status updates, dashboards, or design reports for internal management and external stakeholders.

  • Capture and communicate any variations to the Contract Scope of Work to the PPPE/SPPE and ensure approval routes are followed.

Technical Delivery

  • Assist in the development and review of detailed design plans, deliverables, and technical documentation aligned to Access Skye requirements.

  • Support optioneering, feasibility assessments, and engineering studies required for substations, overhead lines, cables, and associated enabling works.

  • Specify, quantify, and assess materials, equipment, or solution options to ensure best value for project outcomes.

Stakeholder & Interface Management

  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders including Transmission Owner engineering teams, National Grid ESO, SSE, Scottish Power, and DNO partners involved in interface works.

  • Coordinate with environmental, consenting, land, and construction teams to ensure design considerations are integrated early and risks are mitigated.

  • Engage with suppliers, manufacturers, and subject matter experts to ensure technical solutions are robust and compliant with both client and statutory requirements.

Who we're looking for

You will ideally bring:

  • A relevant engineering degree or equivalent technical experience.

  • Experience with transmission or distribution design engineering, project engineering, or engineering management.

  • Strong project controls capabilities and excellent organisational skills.

  • A good baseline of engineering knowledge across electrical infrastructure projects (substations, OHL, cables, civils, or similar).

  • Familiarity with multi‑discipline design coordination within large infrastructure programmes.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to influence and coordinate diverse teams.
