Other

The Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada has named Parsons Brinckerhoff its general engineering consultant (GEC) for the development of a transit program that will be one of the largest public infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the Waterloo Region.

The program includes a 19-kilometer (12-mile) light rail transit (LRT) system and a 17-kilometer (11-mile) bus rapid transit (BRT) network through the Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo area. The LRT system will connect the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo with future expansion planned for Cambridge. The LRT will initially have 16 stations including the King Street station connecting to bus, regional and intercity trains.

As the GEC, Parsons Brinckerhoff will assist the regional government in preparing design criteria and performance requirements for a private partner that will design, build, finance and operate the LRT. Parsons Brinckerhoff will also assist with BRT design, utility relocations, and construction management, and will help to implement a public participation program.
