Balfour Beatty Communities, a leading provider of property management, development and related real estate services for the multifamily, military and student housing markets, has been named by Home Innovation Research Labs as a 2016 National Green Building Standard (NGBS) Green Partner of Excellence. The award recognizes the Company’s project at U.S. Army installation Fort Carson in Colorado where legacy military family housing is being replaced with new product built according to the NGBS Emerald certification—the highest level of green building certification.

Balfour Beatty Communities is in the midst of a revitalization project at Fort Carson to rebuild 176 legacy homes. The new townhomes replace 1960s-era military family housing with new construction that meets the highest standard of NGBS, including high efficiency appliances and plumbing fixtures, UV protected windows and sustainable construction materials. The project broke ground in June 2016 and the first new homes will open to residents later this month. The new development will be completed by December 2017.
The National Green Building Standard is the only residential green building rating system approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an American National Standard. The certification warrants a home to meet a meticulous set of criteria from six different categories: Lot and Site Development; Resource Efficiency; Energy Efficiency; Water Efficiency; Indoor Environmental Quality; and Homeowner Education.
