Balfour Beatty awarded £150 million contract to maintain Wiltshire Highways
04 January 2013
Balfour Beatty, the global infrastructure group announced today that it has been awarded a five-year highway maintenance contract worth £150 million by Wiltshire Council.
The contract, which is due to start on 1 June 2013 covers highway maintenance, grass cutting, grounds maintenance, litter collection and street lighting as well as dealing with winter weather, drainage and bridges. Previously this work had been the responsibility of four different organisations, including an in-house team. Under the new contract all the works will be carried out by Balfour Beatty Living Places, which had previously held only the street lighting contract.
Dick Tonge, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for highways said the council looked forward to working with Balfour Beatty Living Places on ensuring key services which affect the lives of everyone in the county are delivered well by one contractor. Employees who currently carry out these services will be transferred to the new contract.
Ian Tyler, Chief Executive of Balfour Beatty, said: “We are delighted to be able to build on our existing relationship with Wiltshire Council. We have shown once again the breadth of our skills and experience and that we can deliver for local authorities on a wide range of services.”
The decision was announced in a cabinet meeting and remains subject to the formal legal procedures for awarding the contract.
