Our Affinity Networks
As a company, we create the vital structures and systems that support daily lives, but we also want to make sure we reflect the diversity we see every day.
Your individual expertise and unique perspective help us create a sustainable future and a diverse, inclusive place to work. To support our diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives, we have created four employee-led Affinity Networks. By joining these groups as a member or an ally, you can help support our overall D&I strategy and in create a fair and inclusive working environment.
These networks include:
We are taking ambitious steps to raise awareness of the need for gender equality in our industry. Through our Gender Equality Network, we are joining together to support, encourage and recognise the women working across our business.
Building role models
We asked our female engineers why they chose a career in infrastructure and what bold changes they would like to see to support women in the industry.
Working on a variety of projects in a range of important roles, they share their stories and achievements, as well as insights into the importance of gender diversity in the workplace.
We promote and celebrate Balfour Beatty as a diverse and inclusive company. The LGBT network encourages a culture of respect regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We provide education and training to all employees on LGBT+ issues, collaborating with external partners and our supply train to drive best practice within our industry.
We’re working to increase the number of Black, Asian, and minority ethnic (BAME) people across Balfour Beatty and at leadership levels to address skills shortage, broaden the talent pool and reflect the communities in which we operate.
Our aims include:
- Establishing and promoting an open and transparent Multi-Cultural Affinity Network for networking, peer support and to provide a BAME employee voice
- Supporting cross-network events to raise awareness of diversity and promote the networks
- Working with external partnerships to remove barriers to working at Balfour Beatty and increase the diversity employees and people on placements
- Identifying barriers to BAME employees and potential employees to attract, recruit, retain and progress more BAME employees
The Ability Affinity Network is here to identify and remove barriers to enable more people with disabilities to be employed at Balfour Beatty and to reach their full potential.
