Our work matters to millions. It’ll matter to you too. Join our Power Transmission and Distribution team as a Project Manager leading our Substation Team  on the Net Zero Teeside project and you’ll be a big part of fascinating, complex, varied and meaningful work.


This role will be site based around Teeside but we welcome candidates from all over the UK


As a Project Manager your role will:



  • Deliver the Power T&D business strategy and objectives on your tenders and outperform on key success measures

  • Manage commercial and business risks to achieve targets

  • Understand the relevant commercial terms and conditions for each project/tender.


The ideal candidate will have previous experience delivering 132-400KV Substation projects for National Grid 

What you'll be doing


  • Hold periodic project reviews and update the Digital Briefcase

  • Ensure reports provide relevant information to enable decisions to be made
    which are informed, cost effective and in line with overall business strategy

  • Prepare and present both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders

  • Ability to interrogate designs and challenge inputs and deliverables

    Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in
    legislation

  • Carry out Safety & Environmental Tours/promote observation and safety
    initiatives

  • Lead Accident/Incident Investigations and monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvement actions

  • Review RAMS and accepting subcontractor RAMS

  • Develop H&S plan and ensure it is treated as a live document and ensure sufficiency and competency of workforce

  • Coordinate and manage all project activities and internal functions and identify and control resource to deliver works

  • Develop, implement and update resource allocations plans and raise
    appropriate requests

  • Develop high performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent and assist with
    internal training through supporting, guiding, motivating and empowering the
    team. Using the resources available through training, mentoring and
    performance management.

  • Lead risk/opportunity reviews, ownership of the Risk Register and
    recommend/implement changes. Log and escalate any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of authority

  • Manage subcontractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and
    progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that
    contractual arrangements are achieved


  • Ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate
    action on findings and lead working groups on focused improvement areas

  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly
    meeting and ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and 
    customer expectations

  • Incorporate and balance both operational and commercial constraints into
    decision making

  • Advocate consistency and reliability of digital data to support successful
    project delivery

  • Maintain Digital Group Minimum Standards and operate with appropriate level
    of digital tools

Who we're looking for


  • Formal qualification in project management or equivalent experience

  • CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent

  • Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery

  • Driving Licence

  • Previous experience working on National Grid projects would be desirable
