About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our Rail team to work on our Beckton Depot Southern Expansion Project. You’ll be a big part of fascinating, complex, varied and meaningful work.


This role requires an individual with proven commercial experience (preferably experience of NEC contracts) that can lead across all elements of the project delivery lifecycle, understanding technical issues, actively managing people and ensuring successful delivery of the project.

What you'll be doing


  • Lead the Commercial Team to ensure that programme issues are identified and addressed.

  • Oversee the preparation and review of Earned Value Management (EVM) for Project Management.

  • Manage the preparation of the monthly Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) and associated commercial reports.

  • Report on and explain commercial progress to senior divisional staff.

  • Manage the feedback of commercial data to Planning, Estimating, Marketing, and Sales teams.

  • Establish client supply chain requirements and advise on alternative forms of contract and procurement arrangements.

  • Apply relevant legislation and liaise with legal experts as necessary.

  • Prepare estimates and tender submissions, including the interpretation of specifications and preambles.

  • Represent the financial and contractual interests of your employer and/or client in progress meetings and similar forums.

  • Coordinate buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management, procurement, estimating, and surveying functions.

  • Oversee the management of disallowed costs.

  • Liaise with all parties to ensure that tasks and projects remain on track.

Who are we looking for


  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience.

  • Member of RICS or ICES, or working towards this accreditation.

  • Previous experience within the Construction Industry (essential).

  • Understanding of dispute resolution options, structures, and knowledge of the SCL Protocol.

  • Previous experience at a senior level managing project commercial performance, with a track record of delivering commercial excellence.

  • Experience in managing team’s Performance Development Reviews, associated training, professional requirements, and succession planning opportunities.

  • Proven record of working to deadlines, efficiently, and to a high standard.
