About the role

As a Senior Commercial Manager, you will lead the financial management of major, complex projects or multiple projects, from inception through tendering, contract negotiation, and delivery. These projects often involve values reaching hundreds of millions of pounds.


You will be a key member of the senior leadership team within the project or Business Unit, driving the commercial and financial success of each initiative. Your role encompasses risk management, procurement, financial reporting, and supply chain management, requiring expertise and a holistic understanding of the construction industry.


You will demonstrate exceptional commercial awareness, client engagement, project management, and leadership skills. A proven track record of managing and developing commercial teams, coupled with a Chartered or Fellow status (RICS, ICES, or CIOB), will position you as a mentor and role model for your team.

What you'll be doing


  • Provide commercial input during Value Engineering reviews for diverse construction methodologies.

  • Lead the commercial team to identify and address programme issues proactively.

  • Prepare and present monthly CVRs and related commercial reports to senior divisional staff.

  • Advise on client supply chain requirements and explore alternative contract and procurement arrangements.

  • Apply legislation knowledge and liaise with legal experts as required.

  • Prepare estimates and tender submissions, ensuring accurate interpretation of specifications and preambles.

  • Coordinate functions including buying, accounts, production control, planning, and supply chain management.

  • Manage disallowed costs effectively.

  • Oversee and advise on team training, development, and professional advancement.

Who we're looking for

Essential Experience:



  • Exceptional negotiation, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to influence others effectively.

  • Proven experience mentoring and coaching team members to develop talent and ensure succession planning.

  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and delegate efficiently.

  • Demonstrated resilience, determination, and a results-driven mindset.

  • Proactive management of opportunities, risks, and challenges.

  • In-depth knowledge of managing large projects or portfolios and delivering maximum value.


Qualifications:



  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent experience).

  • Chartered Member or Fellow of RICS, ICES, or CIOB.
