About the role

Balfour Beatty are looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to join our Major Projects Team on the Old Oak Common Project in London.


HS2’s station construction partner, Balfour Beatty VINCI Systra joint venture (BBVS) are leading the construction of HS2’s new Old Oak Common Station. Set to be the best connected and largest new railway stations ever built in the UK, Old Oak Common will become one of the country’s most vital transport super hubs. The station will have 14 platforms, a mix of six high speed and eight conventional service platforms, with an 850m-long station box. It is expected to be one of the busiest railway stations in the country with high speed rail services to the midlands, Scotland and the North and access to central London and Heathrow via the Crossrail Elizabeth Line.


The Health and Safety Advisor will provide risk-based assurance that the project is compliant with all HSES requirements and provide expert HSES technical advice, guidance, and support.

What you'll be doing


  • Promoting Health, Safety and Wellbeing throughout the Project;

  • Advising managers and operatives of good practice;

  • Managing the operational Health, Safety and Wellbeing requirements of BBVS JV
    undertakings

  • Ensuring project compliance with statutory legislation and contractual Health,
    Safety and Wellbeing requirements indicated in the Works Information.

  • Provide project teams with expert HSW technical advice, guidance and support.

  • Collaboratively engage with both internal & external customers and the supply chain to promote zero harm delivery.

  • Undertake regular site inspections as per project risk matrix and produce formal
    reports using the Project Portal to record HSW inspections.

  • Undertake regular checks on Health and Safety Risk Management highlighting risks and opportunities.

  • Support the delivery of HSW Key Performance Indicators at project and business
    level

  • Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in accordance with BBVSJV standards and BMS requirements.

Who we're looking for


  • Relevant degree, NEBOSH Diploma or Health, Safety and Wellbeing and Health
    vocational qualification.

  • Member of the Institution of Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing and Health (TechIOSH / GradIOSH)

  • Experience in H&S within the Civil Engineering sector, including demolition and ground engineering on major projects

  • Ability to prepare technical inspection, audit reports and other documentation for
    submission to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Previous experience in conducting incident investigations to a high standard including the utilisation of incident reporting software and including Root Cause Analysis.

  • Confident with Microsoft Office 365 suite and online databases and general IT

  • Extensive knowledge and experience relevant to Health and Safety in construction

  • Wide-ranging experience with major projects in the building, civil and rail sector

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
