About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Section Engineer to join our Regional team to work on a variety of Civil Engineering projects in East Anglia.


The East Anglia Region continues to grow as our Regional Business Unit provides valuable civil engineering expertise to our our Power Business working with National Grid.


The work consists of Earthworks, Drainage and Flood Alleviation


 

What you'll be doing

As a Section Engineer you will:



  • Manage and execute the safe and efficient delivery of an individual contract by working with a team of engineers. Interaction with foremen / quantity surveyors and/or subcontractors will be required.

  • Hold a level of responsibility for safety, quality, financial performance, programme adherence and client satisfaction

  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm

  • Produce Method Statements and Risk Assessments and undertake periodic reviews

  • Prepare and raise Temporary Works Briefs, following up to ensure timely implementation

  • Carry out complex setting out

  • Coach junior engineers in the use of setting out techniques.

  • Produce Activity Control Plans / Inspection and Test Plans and obtain approvals

  • Maintain a comprehensive filing system of quality records aligned to the Project Quality Handover requirements;

  • Ensure that Site Engineers complete the required quality check sheets on a timely basis for the works;

  • Identify, raise and action Non Conformance Reports.

  • Identify and raise Technical Queries (RFIs) with possible solutions

  • Produce a weekly programme and measure progress against KPI’s

  • Communicate weekly programme and targets to the workforce;

  • Monitor as-built programme and report reasons for difference;

  • Liaise with subcontractors to ensure works undertaken in line with weekly programme

Who we're looking for

You will need the following Personal Qualities and Experience:



  • Ability to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately;

  • A strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights;

  • Be able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility;

  • Hold a current driving license and CSCS Card. SSSTS or SMSTS qualified;

  • Must be a strong team player, with developed communication skills.

  • Understand Permit System and actively raise Permits to Work;

  • Good level of Environmental Awareness

  • Able to carry out complex setting out

  • Able to resolve issues with control and information provided

  • Able to identify issues on drawings and suggest construction solutions

  • Have experience of a variety of civil engineering projects including Earthworks / Drainage, Pavement, Comms, Structures and Flood alleviation
