Intermediate Level Apprenticeships
We offer two types of Intermediate Apprenticeships; Trade and Business apprenticeships. Both are designed for school leavers to enter the world of work and gain on-the-job training, whilst working towards a nationally recognised qualification. Typically apprentices are designed to allow you to gain work-based learning qualifications such as a Level 2 Competence Qualification.
Intermediate Trade Apprenticeship
Having completed your GCSE’s (or equivalent), our Intermediate Trade Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to learn the essential skills of your trade and obtain a vocational qualification, whilst also earning a full time salary.
You will support real projects, learn about our business and get exposure to our operations. During the scheme you will attend college on a day or block release basis and learn the essential skills of your future role. You will demonstrate the skills learned at college and improve them in real work situations.
Successful candidates at the end of the scheme can expect to be working as a skilled tradesperson such as:
- Construction Operations
- Heating and Ventilating
- Maintenance Operations
- Mechanical Engineering
- Plant Mechanic
- Railway Engineering
- Highways Maintenance
- Street Lighting
Intermediate Business Apprenticeship
Our Intermediate Business Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to learn on the job and obtain nationally recognised qualification too. You will have completed your GSCE’s (or equivalent) and will be looking to join the world of work and study for a vocational qualification.
You will support real projects, learn about our business and get exposure to our operations. During the scheme you will attend college on a day or block release basis and learn the essential skills of your future role. You will work on site, under the guidance of a more senior colleague; you will demonstrate the skills learned at college and improve them in real work situations.
Successful candidates at the end of the scheme can expect to work in:
- Supply Chain
- General Management
- NVQ Level 2
- Level 2 Diploma in relevant subject
- Level 2 Functional Skills (Maths, English, ICT)
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
Demonstrate the potential and commitment; you may also be given the opportunity to be selected to continue on an Advanced Apprenticeship scheme.
You will receive a competitive salary dependent upon your role, plus an array of benefits. Benefits vary across our businesses but generally include a pension scheme, participation in our flexible benefits programme (so you can choose the package that is right for you), the ability to join the Share Incentive Plan (SIP) and up to 25 days holiday per year. You may receive a travel allowance or company car and some areas of the business also help towards professional institution fees. Your salary will rise with qualifications achieved and experience gained. In addition, we will pay your college fees.
The apprenticeship will last for around two years but will finish when you reach the required standard and gain the relevant qualification.
Entry qualifications required
This varies according to scheme but generally you will require three GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*- C grades in English, Maths and a Science. You may have already studied for a Trade Diploma at college, which may give you some exemptions in the apprenticeship. You will usually need to sit and pass aptitude tests for the trade apprenticeship depending on the trade. Full details will be stated in the job advert.
