The Balfour Beatty Construction project team working on the Harris High Technology Center in Florida demonstrated the importance of Balfour Beatty’s Zero Harm safety commitment by inviting all shifts of the Palm Bay and Brevard County Fire Department rescue teams to the jobsite.
Balfour Beatty’s newly erected tower crane is the tallest structure in the City of Palm Bay, standing at 156 feet. The project team wanted to be sure that in the event of an emergency, fire and EMS crews had a plan, along with the proper tools and equipment to rescue the crane’s operator.
“We are working diligently at each project to spread the message of the importance of Zero Harm to everyone,” said Chris Diaz, Loss Prevention Director at Balfour Beatty Construction.
The project team also invited the rescue teams to visit the jobsite every other month for a tour.
“It’s a win-win for the rescue teams, the jobsite, the owner, and the community,” said Diaz. “These visits will enable the rescue teams to be more prepared by regularly enjoying personalised tours of the ever-changing project site.”
Additionally, when the building is complete and turned over to Harris Corporation, the safety and rescue teams will be intimately familiar with the building, a huge benefit to the owner.
