Balfour Beatty awarded £19 million scheme for Grade II listed University of Bristol building

Balfour Beatty has been awarded a £19 million scheme for the University of Bristol to renovate and extend the Grade II listed Fry Building.                                                            

The scheme will provide a new main entrance, a raised external terrace, a new atrium and a new 140-seat lecture theatre. New services to improve energy efficiency and environmental performance including photovoltaic panels, new plant and services will also be provided throughout.

External works including landscaping and urban realm improvements will also be the responsibility of Balfour Beatty.

Upon completion the 10,335 sq. m Fry Building will be the University’s home for the School of Mathematics. The development is a key part of the University’s £525m capital investment programme over 10 years.

John Keaveney, Balfour Beatty Regional Managing Director, said: “Balfour Beatty has been selected to work on this project because of our proven expertise within the higher education sector.

“We look forward to working on this flagship project on the campus, and to building a-long term relationship with the University of Bristol.”

Works are due to commence in early 2017 with completion scheduled for summer 2017.
