Advanced Level Apprenticeships

We offer three types of Advanced Apprenticeship programmes; trade, technical and business schemes.  All are designed to give school leavers on-the-job training, whilst working towards a nationally recognised qualification. Typically apprentices are designed to allow you to gain work-based learning such as a Level 3 Competence Qualification, Functional Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge based qualification. We offer the following schemes: 

Advanced Trade Apprenticeship

Having achieved five GSCE’s (or equivalent) or a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship, our Advanced Trade Apprenticeships are a great opportunity for you to learn on the job and obtain nationally recognised qualification. 

During the scheme you will attend college on a day or block release basis and learn the more advanced skills of your trade.  You will work on site, under the guidance of a more senior colleague; you will demonstrate the skills learned at college and improve them in real work situations.

Successful candidates at the end of the scheme can expect to work as a skilled tradesperson, such as: 

  • Air Conditioning Engineer
  • Bricklayer
  • Carpenter
  • Electrician
  • Highways Maintenance Engineer
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Plant Mechanic
  • Plumber
  • Railway Engineer
  • Street Lighting Engineer

Advanced Technical Apprenticeship 

Having achieved five GSCE’s (or equivalent) or a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship, our Advanced Technical Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to learn on the job and obtain nationally recognised qualification. 

During the scheme you will attend college on a day or block release basis and learn the more advanced skills of your technical specialism. You will work on site, under the guidance of a more senior colleague where you will demonstrate the skills learned at college and improve them in real work situations.

Successful candidates at the end of the scheme can expect to work as a skilled tradesperson, such as:

  • Civil Engineer 
  • Construction Manager
  • Designer
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Facilities Manager
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Power Engineer
  • Quantity Surveyor
  • Railway Engineer

Advanced Business Apprenticeship 

Having achieved five GSCE’s (or equivalent) or a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship, our Advanced Business Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to learn on the job and obtain nationally recognised qualification.

During the scheme you will attend college on a day or block release basis and learn the more advanced business skills. You will work in one of our offices, and sometimes on site, under the guidance of a more senior colleague where you will demonstrate the skills learned at college and improve them in real work situations.

Successful candidates at the end of the scheme can expect to work in:

  • Finance 
  • HR 
  • Marketing 
  • Supply Chain 
  • General Management

Qualifications gained

  • NVQ Level 3
  • Level 3 Diploma in relevant subject
  • Level 3 Functional Skills (Maths, English, ICT)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

You will also be on the first step of the ladder towards gaining a professional qualification. You may also be given the opportunity to be selected for a Higher Apprenticeship if you can demonstrate the potential and commitment required for further development.

Benefits

You will receive a competitive salary dependent upon your role, plus an array of benefits. Benefits vary across our businesses but generally include a pension scheme, participation in our flexible benefits programme (so you can choose the package that is right for you), the ability to join the Share Incentive Plan (SIP) and up to 25 days holiday per year. You may receive a travel allowance or company car and some areas of the business also help towards professional institution fees. Your salary will rise with qualifications achieved and experience gained.

In addition, we will pay your college fees.

Scheme duration

The apprenticeship will last for around two to four years but will finish when you reach the required standard and gain the relevant qualification.

Entry qualifications required

This varies according to scheme but generally you will require five GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*- C grades in English, Maths and a Science. Alternatively you may have already completed a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship.

You will usually need to sit and pass aptitude tests for the trade apprenticeship depending on the trade. Full details will be stated in the job advert.
