Birmingham Northern Relief Road

Balfour Beatty plc, the international engineering, construction and services group, announces today that a joint venture company comprising Carillion, Alfred McAlpine, Balfour Beatty and AMEC (CAMBBA Construction Group) has been awarded the £485.5 million contract to design and construct the Birmingham Northern Relief Road, the UK’s first toll road. The client is the concession holder, Midland Expressway Limited.


The design work will commence in October 2000 and the site works will begin during the spring of 2001. Completion is anticipated for the end of January 2004.


The Birmingham Northern Relief Road is a bypass route for the M6 motorway, running between the M6 near Junction 4 in the south to the M6 between Junctions 11 and 12 in the north.
