Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction and services group, announces today that it has completed two small-scale acquisitions for a total consideration of approximately £5 million, which strengthen its capabilities in two areas of strong future market potential.
In the transport sector, Balfour Beatty has completed the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation’s UK Solid State Interlocking (SSI) signalling resources.
Balfour Beatty has three rail signalling companies, based in the US, Germany and the UK. The UK business is a respected supplier of signalling expertise to Network Rail and other customers.
The acquisition will expand Balfour Beatty’s current SSI capability and substantially broaden the range of signalling related services that it can offer to Network Rail and other customers.
Heery International, Balfour Beatty’s US architectural, design, programme, project and facility management specialist, has completed the acquisition of HLM Design, a Philadelphia-based design and engineering firm. HLM is a recognised leader in the planning and design of healthcare projects in the US and will add to Heery’s existing resources and expertise in this fast-growing market. It has offices in Philadelphia, Orlando, Iowa City and Denver and has completed projects to the value of over $450 million over the last 10 years.
